Metal Roof Systems Installers Now Can Certify Their Skills and Knowledge

NRCA podcast Jared Ribble
June 15, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.

By Cass Jacoby, RCS Reporter

Learn about NRCA’s latest certification and its importance to the metal roofing industry.

Episode 23, Season 4, of the Roofing Road Trips podcast is all about metal panel roof systems. RCS President Heidi J. Ellsworth visits with Jared Ribble, NRCA’s director of certification development, to talk about the association’s new ProCertification® designation for metal panel roof system installers and the overall importance of metal in roofing.

“I teach NRCA’s Qualified Trainer Conference and also am the association’s director of certification development,” Jared says. “Certification is an important step in a worker's journey to becoming a true roofing professional.”

Jared explains a field worker’s journey is one of constant learning and growth. As he tells Heidi, there is an equal need for training and certification for both new workers and professionals looking to have their skills and experience validated. NRCA built ProCertification for qualified roofing workers to become nationally certified in specific roof system designations, to create a career path for field workers and to elevate the industry to be on par with other trades.

Jared says the process for developing NRCA ProCertification involves asking industry experts, “What skills does a roof system installer need to be a great thermoplastic installer? A great asphalt shingle installer? A great clay and concrete tile installer? A great EPDM installer?”

“Every roof system requires different skills,” Jared says. “A great asphalt shingle installer might not have the same skills as a thermoplastic installer who has to weld, know how to finish inside corners, etc. Each certification is system-specific.” That’s why the addition of metal to the list of ProCertification offerings is so exciting. It’s important that metal panel roof system installers are validated for their skills, knowledge and experience.

“I'm blown away by the detailed skill it takes to install a metal panel roof system,” Jared says. “These installers are so impressive — it's their turn to be able to say, ‘Yes, I am impressive. I am really good at what I'm doing. And I want and deserve to have that NRCA ProCertified installer badge.’

Listen to the podcast for more insight about the new NRCA ProCertification for Metal Panel Roof Systems Installers and to learn more about how training and certification can help your business.
