Looking ahead to the IIBEC Convention and Trade Show

IIBEC Podcast with Brian Pallasch
February 7, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.

By Emma Peterson.

This year, there are more educational opportunities than ever at IIBEC.

In a new episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Megan Ellsworth met with the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC)’s CEO, Brian Pallasch, to talk about their upcoming convention and trade show. This year it will be in Phoenix, Arizona from March 8-11. The last time the show was in Phoenix it was scaled back due to COVID-19 restrictions. Brian explained, “We're excited to be a full complement of all of our activities this time.” This complement of activities has something for every part of the industry, and this year, they have placed a special focus on education.

Brian explained that one of the new things they have implemented is their three technical sessions for all attendees. One of the sessions is ”Design for Tornado Loads in ASCE 7-22 standard and the 2024 International Building Code.” This session will feature Marc Levitan as the presenter. Marc works at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and his presentation will focus on what the hazards are regarding tornadoes and how the standards are developed to respond to these. According to Brian, this session will touch on the importance of making structures, such as hospitals and firehouses, naturally safe spaces for people to shelter.

In addition to those three technical sessions, IIBEC provides extensive class options for attendees. Brian explained, “We have over 20 seminars that we're giving and a special auxiliary seminar on Friday, March 8.” These classes cover a range of topics from insulation to roof evaluation. Brian highlighted a few, saying, “We're doing ‘A Deep Dive Into Hail-caused Dents, ‘Wind, OSB and Low-slope Roofing Systems,’ ‘Decades of R&D Advancement in Roofing’ is another course, as is ‘Roof-mounted Solar and the Return on Investment in Best Practices.’” There is something for everyone at the IIBEC Convention and Trade Show. Make sure you register today to take advantage of these educational sessions and more!
