Local company’s kind gift means that a local community member fighting cancer has one less stress

By Emma Peterson.

Cynthia Jefferson has consistently made it through what life throws at her, but some things, like a $10,000 repair on her roof, seemed impossible to her. Seegers Roofing and Remodeling made it possible.

Battling stage four liver cancer and recovering from recent surgeries to replace a knee and receive a pacemaker, Cynthia has had a tough time. She explains in an interview with KTAL News, “It’s just gotten to the point where I can’t work or do anything. From there – I’ve just started going down. But I kept faith in the Lord and I gave all these problems that I’m having to him. I know he’s gonna work this out. That’s what I kept in my head and to this day he’s working it out.” And one of the ways it is starting to work out for Cynthia is thanks to the generosity of Robert Graham, owner of Seegers Roofing and Remodeling.

Through a connection with local contractors who knew her brother, Robert was introduced to Cynthia. When he found out that there was a leak in her roof that resulted in it collapsing into her home, he knew Cynthia couldn’t go through another winter with her home in that condition. Robert got together with local contractors to create a plan to fix her roof. He says, “We were trying to do something to help her. I have a company here in Shreveport and we’ve been blessed this year. So another company, a supply company. It’s Riverside Roofing and he offered to supply the supplies for free. I said I can do the labor for free to help Mrs. Jefferson out.”

They were able to repair the leak for free and even rebuilt Cynthia’s porch, so that it was easier for her to access her home. She didn’t know what to say, but was able to express, “I cried but it was tears of joy to know someone heard my story, saw what I was going through and came back to help me. I was overwhelmed with that.”

Now, thanks to Robert’s kindness, Cynthia will have a warm and safe home for the winter. When asked about the gift, Robert commented, “Sometimes people just need help.”

Cynthia shared that kindness like his helps her keep going, saying, “Don’t give up. Don’t give up. I’ve suffered four years but I couldn’t give up. But thank God for my daughter and my son and my brother. I love them dearly. Because there were many days where I wanted to throw that towel in.”
