Business is Booming in Florida!

Coffee Conversations Live FRSA July 21
July 31, 2022 at 3:00 p.m.

By Evelyn Witterholt.

In a special live episode of Coffee Conversations, RooferCoffeeShop® learned about the current state of the Florida roofing market directly from Floridian contractors.

RoofersCoffeeShop recently hosted a live episode of Coffee Conversations at the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Contractors Association (FRSA) 100th Annual Convention. There, Heidi J. Ellsworth spoke with leading Florida roofing contractors about their experience and insight into the Florida roofing market. The group consisted of President of CFS Roofing Services, David Crowther, FRSA President, Matt Criswell, Owner of BRI Roof Consulting, Joe Byrne and President of Cardinal Roofing and Solar Technologies, Bridget Jenkins Wilson.

They kicked off their discussion by talking about different market trends they have all been noticing. David says that although he’s doing a lot of new construction work and the market is strong, he is running into backlog issues. He said, “Right now, what seems to be driving my backlog is the bid market is still very, very strong, and I have an awful lot of work on their backlog. I have not seen it slow down as far as business development goes.”

Bridget, who owns a smaller roofing company, is finding that her company is being hired for more repair work than re-roofing jobs. She has also noticed that the repairs they are making are not typically from poor workmanship, but rather from wear and tear or weather-related issues.

“As far as the repairs go and what we're seeing with that market is there's a lot better roofs being put on,” she said. “I think that the Florida contractors have stepped up their game. And so that's always great. We always want to make money off of repairs, but not because somebody else didn't do their job properly.”

The group also discusses the ways they are handling material shortages. While they are getting plenty of jobs to do, they are finding it hard to complete work in a timely manner when they can’t find the right materials.

“We want to do it and we want to move on to the next job. And when we can't get the material to start, it's not our fault,” Joe said. “It's not the roofer's fault, it's not the supplier's fault and it's not the manufacturer's fault. It's materials, the raw materials and everything.”

Read, Listen or Watch the entire Coffee Conversation to learn about the state of the Florida roofing market from these local contractors!
