Visualizing insulated metal panels through digital tools

Visualizing insulated metal panels through digital tools

Visualization technology is helping contractors, architects and owners better understand insulated metal panel systems.

As construction workflows continue shifting from traditional drawings toward more connected digital environments, visualization tools are becoming increasingly important for project teams. In a recent episode of MetalCast™, host Heidi Ellsworth sat down with Marco Francisco, director of digital construction at All Weather Insulated Panels, to discuss how digital technologies are helping users better understand insulated metal panel (IMP) systems.

Marco broke down how insulated metal panels are engineered to be a complete building envelope system in a single product. “They combine exterior and interior metal skins with an insulated core,” he said. “So you get the structure, the insulation, the weather protection, all working together in one panel.”

According to Marco, one of the industry's biggest challenges is helping project teams visualize how complex assemblies, colors, details and technical requirements come together in a finished building. To address that challenge, All Weather Insulated Panels developed Glimpse XR, a platform designed to make IMP systems easier to explore and understand. “The idea behind Glimpse XR really came from something we see all the time,” Marco said. “IMP systems are powerful, but they can be hard to fully picture from a drawing or a PDF alone.”

The platform brings together interactive 3D environments, color exploration tools, technical documentation and Building Information Modeling (BIM) content in a single location. Rather than forcing users to consult multiple documents, the system allows contractors, architects and owners to view assemblies within a building context.

As the industry increasingly embraces BIM, artificial intelligence and connected project data, tools like Glimpse XR illustrate how technology is helping bridge the gap between technical information and practical understanding.

The result is greater clarity earlier in the process, helping teams visualize systems before they are installed and creating a stronger foundation for project coordination.
