The power of a fast installation in liquid applied roofing systems

Tremco Power of Fast Installation
March 1, 2024 at 6:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

From lower labor needs to increased flexibility, Tremco’s new roof coating is making installations easier than ever.

In an episode of Roofing Road Trips®,  Josh Poole from Tremco Roofing Division met with host Heidi J. Ellsworth to discuss the release of AlphaGuard™ FC LO and what makes it so special. One of the key takeaways? The importance of fast-curing materials and installations in the field.

Josh explained that there are a number of benefits to this product, including low odors and temperature resistance. But he highlighted its ability to be installed quickly. This product boasts a waterproof layer with a cure time of as little as 30 minutes, meaning the entire installation process can come in under an hour on average. This fast installation timeline is not just due to the fast curing of the product. In part, it is because of the chemistry and technology behind the AlphaGuard™ FC LO.

It was designed as a two-component product that does not require a base- or topcoat, which expedites the entire process. “Traditionally with a liquid applied system you have a basecoat and a topcoat application. But with this product you don't,” Josh explained. Rather than waiting days to allow different coats to cure fully, the AlphaGuard™ FC LO can be installed in a single day and after its short 30-minute cure you have an entire new waterproofing system.

Furthermore, in those days of waiting, extra labor and issues can arise. Josh explained, “Typically, the next day you may have pollen or debris or things that have accumulated on the roof surface that you may need to blow off and clean.” And this extended cure time also means that contractors must ensure that the weather is not going to shift during the process. Waiting for these extended pockets means losing days where you could be working on jobs. By simplifying the number of unique products on the jobsite and reducing the amount of labor needed, the AlphaGuard™ FC LO is pushing the industry forward.
