The Hippest Trends in Exterior Home Improvement

Palisade Podcast with Robert and Randy
March 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

By Cayden Wemple.

Check out what’s driving homeowners to keep up with the latest trends in a new episode of Roofing Road Trips.

The age of the internet is an era where a wealth of information can be gained on anything at any time and home improvement is certainly no exception. On a new episode of Roofing Road Trips, host Heidi J. Ellsworth sat down with longtime industry veterans Randy Knox of and Robert Ricci of Palisade, (a sister company of the building product brand, IPG) to discuss what’s keeping customers interested in the latest trends in exterior home improvement.

Randy used to joke that he was in the industry for 30 years and for 20 of those years, nothing ever changed. It was the same old technology used on the same old houses. Now he says, “It changes so fast he can't keep up.”

“What's really driving it is we're making homes and structures more energy efficient, and there's a reason for that because we want to save the environment, control the cost of what it takes to heat and cool the structure, but by doing that we change the practices and the products that we had used in the past,” Robert continues, “We build our building so tight now there's no energy that escapes to dry it out. If a building gets wet roof-wise, wall-wise, it stays wet and rots so we have to be very conscious of the products we use and how they're installed to make sure we don't have any catastrophic failures.”

The fact of the matter is that homeowners are simply more educated today and they want to make their homes more sustainable. Randy told Heidi, “The homeowners are more educated today because of the internet and podcasts like this. They're requesting a lot of things. They've done their research and understand more today about what goes into the home than they did five, 10 years ago because of the availability of information. In the past, we always had to rely on the contractor person telling us what we needed and what they were using and things like that. Those days are pretty much gone.”
