The Acquisition That Will Enhance the Construction Industry’s Sustainability Efforts

Master Builders Sika Acquisition
August 25, 2023 at 12:00 p.m.

By Evelyn Witterholt.

By acquiring MBCC Group, home to brands including Master Builders Solution, Sika has expanded their sustainable product portfolio.

In June, Sika announced that they had successfully closed their acquisition of MBCC Group, a deal that will increase the specialty chemicals company’s sustainable product offerings. MBCC Group is home to many brands, including Master Builders Solution, all of which will now operate under Sika. With this deal, Sika will be able to offer a wider range of sustainable construction solutions.

Master Builders Solution is a construction chemical solutions company that operates globally. Their portfolio includes waterproofing solutions, concrete repair and protection solutions. One of the roofing products they offer is the MasterSeal NP 1, a one-component elastomeric polyurethane sealant. This high-performing sealant requires no mixing and no need for a primer on most construction materials.

MBCC Group is well-known for their sustainable achievements. They are a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UN GC) and have committed to the 10 principles of the UN GC. The principles include human rights, anti-corruption and environmental responsibility. They also have a sustainability strategy that is structured around four pillars: sustainable products, climate and environment, business integrity and employees. Together, MBCC Group and Sika will work towards a goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Once the acquisition was complete, Sika sold MBCC Group’s chemical admixtures assets to Cinven, an international private equity firm. MBCC Group has assets in the USA, the UK, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Thomas Hasler, CEO of Sika, said, “We are delighted to welcome the MBCC employees to the Sika family. We embark on our exciting journey and will continue to drive Sika’s growth story. Thanks to our extensive experience integrating companies, we will successfully bring Sika and MBCC together and combine our strengths to create the new reference in the construction chemicals industry."
