Technology built on trust

Strong technology partnerships depend on clear goals, companywide collaboration and a willingness to adapt as a business grows.
On this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, technology takes center stage as a tool for helping roofing companies scale, but successful implementation requires more than choosing the right platform. For Brad Sutter, president of Sutter Roofing and Aaron Weinstein, co-founder and CEO of Terial, the process begins with understanding business needs, involving the right people and building a strong partnership around change.
After years of evaluating and implementing different systems, Brad has seen how technology can reveal opportunities for improvement throughout a company. He emphasized that contractors need to approach implementation with flexibility, explaining, “You have to understand that you’re going to need to make changes in your company and in the way you operate to better align with and implement the technology platform.”
That mindset helped guide Sutter Roofing’s transition to Terial, a workflow automation platform serving the commercial roofing industry. Before implementation, Terial met with members of Sutter Roofing’s leadership team to better understand existing workflows, challenges and goals. Aaron emphasized the value of that collaboration, sharing, “The best technology partners, I view, are the ones who actually listen to their customers, they listen to the users and they adapt feedback into the product and they enhance it.”
The companies also took a phased approach to implementation, identifying internal champions who could become familiar with the platform before helping with broader training. Brad credited his leadership team with evaluating technology options and preparing employees for the transition, while Aaron pointed to that internal support as an important part of managing change.
As adoption continues, Sutter Roofing is focused on moving from functionality toward optimization. Brad described the company’s progress, noting, “The comfort level and the familiarity of how to navigate the platform is continuing to build.” That continued learning includes identifying new ways to use information, refine processes and collaborate with Terial as additional needs emerge.
For contractors considering a technology change, both leaders stressed the importance of understanding current gaps, defining where the business needs to go and involving the people who will use the platform every day.
