Serendipity, peer networks and strong onboarding fuel growth

Understand how relationships, timing and trust often steer major technology decisions in commercial roofing just as much as product features do. 

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, R3NG owner Lauren Morley and Terial co-founder Aaron Weinstein discussed the human moments that influence technology decisions. Lauren shared that her path to Terial started years earlier through her involvement in the Greg Haynes peer-to-peer group, where contractors often exchange candid feedback about tools and processes. While her company was struggling through a difficult platform transition, another member mentioned Terial and Greg added that it was one of the few systems he believed could handle everything a commercial roofer needs. Lauren kept the name in the back of her mind for when she was ready to consider another change. 

Months later, a chance meeting at a sales conference brought everything full circle. Lauren found herself discussing her biggest operational frustrations with an attendee who listened closely as she described the challenges of managing multiple systems. She didn’t realize she was speaking directly to the person behind the platform she had mentally bookmarked. When he eventually introduced himself as Aaron Weinstein of Terial, the connection between the earlier recommendation and this unexpected encounter became immediately clear. A brief conversation turned into a long discussion about company growth, industry hurdles and what it takes to build software that serves real roofing workflows. That initial rapport set the stage for a more formal evaluation of Terial’s platform. 

Lauren said her team remained cautious because of past setbacks, noting, “I think we were all very hesitant. We were not very trusting at the time.” But  Terial’s willingness to engage directly with everyone on staff changed the experience. She said the depth of Terial’s involvement quickly won her team over and made the decision straightforward. That hands-on approach helped her crew feel supported through every stage of onboarding rather than pushed into another difficult transition. 

For Lauren, that mix of peer trust, timing and direct engagement ultimately reshaped how her company approached technology decisions. What began as a casual recommendation and an unexpected conversation turned into a process where her entire team felt seen and supported. Past platform challenges had made the group cautious, but the depth of involvement throughout onboarding gradually replaced hesitation with confidence. The experience represented how relationships, timing and thoughtful implementation can weigh just as heavily as product features when contractors choose the systems that will support their long-term growth.
