S2:E38 – Renee Ramey- The Power of MRA Certified Contractors

Roofing Road Trip with Renee Ramey
September 30, 2020 at 9:59 a.m.

By Colin Sheehan, RCS Reporter.

Hear the MRA recruitment and promotional strategies from the Executive Director herself.

On this episode of Roofing Road Trips with Heidi, Executive Director of Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) Renee Ramey, shares how she got her start in roofing, MRA promotional approaches and what it looks like to be an MRA member.

Renee’s first job in the industry was with Steelscape, a coil converter mill located on the west coast. Renee spent a little over 17 years in the role of marketing manager, getting to know raw materials, coil, metallic coatings and paint.

“From there, I bounced over to a service center located in the Pacific Northwest. There, I got a completely different view of the market...and that was really beneficial,” said Renee. After working at the service center for a couple years, Renee accepted the role of executive director with the MRA and feels fortunate to be continuing her career in the metals industry, working with a variety of businesses.

The MRA exists to educate and promote the benefits of metal roofing to homeowners. The goal of MRA is to bring metal roofing into the consideration set when a homeowner is deciding what material to use for their roof. The MRA also helps homeowners through all of the stages of metal roofing; like finding a local professional and connecting them with MRA members who can assist in the process.

This makes promotion a priority for the MRA, and their strategies for spreading the word are important factors in determining their success with communicating the benefits of metal roofing to homeowners. “We're out there on every platform you can imagine,” said Renee. “We've partnered with recognized personalities within the home improvement industry and are actively present in TV, radio, social, digital…you name it.”

MRA also does regular market research on consumers to help identify trends as well as routes to reach interested homeowners.

The other side of MRA is their membership base. MRA is focused on bringing valued benefits to their contractor members, including consumer trend information, market data, regional support and access to homeowners who have shown interest in metal roofing.

A lead is a homeowner who is interested in metal roofing and looking to connect with a local contractor.  A prospect is someone who is interested in learning about metal roofing to see if it's a good fit for their home. The MRA helps our contractor members by providing marketing materials and sales tools for outreach to those homeowners, both leads and prospects.”
