RLW Webinar Explores WTI Apprenticeship Program

WTI RLW Apprenticeship Blog
February 17, 2020 at 6:00 a.m.

By Karen L. Edwards, RCS Editor.

RCS partner Heidi J. Ellsworth talks with Maleah Evans and Rick Mosholder to learn more about Weatherproofing Technologies and this exciting opportunity.

Weatherproofing Technologies, Inc. is the contracting division of Tremco Roofing and Waterproofing. They are licensed in all 50 states and have 600 employees across the country. Maleah Evans, quality resources coordinator for WTI said, “You would think that 600 is enough, but it isn't. We don't ever want to stop recruiting and getting good people to come and work for this company.”

Rick Mosholder explained how the company’s apprenticeship program began. “What really started out as an exercise to create and enhance our internal training quickly morphed into the idea that, well, we could probably see if we could register this as an apprenticeship program with the U.S. Department of Labor.”

The program requires 4,000 hours of on-the-job training and 392 related instruction hours, which exceeds the minimum federal requirement of 288 hours. It’s recognized in all 50 states and the U.S. territories and accredited by the company’s education partner, the University of Akron.  This means that participants are earning college credits while they are in the program. An added benefit is that there are no out-of-pocket costs for those in the program.

The program is good for those in any stage of their career – from recent high school graduates to more seasoned workers who might be looking for a change. WTI offers a great corporate culture as evidenced by the many long-term employees. Maleah has been with the company for 20 years and Rick for 17 and they both agree that they love working there. Maleah says that if you’re “interested in working for a positive and great company who believes in their employees, who supports their employees, the advancement of their employees, teaching their employees” then this program could be right for you.

Watch the webinar to get the full details on the program.
