Protect Roofs From the Wrath of Mother Nature

Expand your roofing business by becoming a certified FORTIFIED roof installer.

After Hurricane Ida wreaked havoc across the East Coast, and with Atlantic Hurricane season upon us, homeowners are looking for ways to strengthen their roofs. The roof is one of the main protective components of a home and when a roof is not resistant to the elements, this can be bothersome to homeowners at best and detrimental at worst. If you want to help make roofs stronger for homeowners, and in turn expand your business offerings, consider becoming a certified FORTIFIED Roof™ installer.

FORTIFIED roofs are essentially a set of roof upgrades that help a roof become more resistant to harsh weather conditions. The FORTIFIED Roof from FORTIFIED by IBHS has been developed from over two decades of research by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) to ensure their fortified roofs are strong against the harshest weather conditions. The roofs can withstand winds up to 130 mph, hail up to two inches and even EF-2 Tornadoes.

There are three different tiers of FORTIFIED Roofs: FORTIFIED Roofs, FORTIFIED Silver and FORTIFIED Gold. While the Silver and Gold tiers offer more protective elements, all three tiers are guaranteed to meet these National Standards for Resilience:

  • Enhanced roof deck attachment

  • Sealed roof deck

  • Locked down roof edges

  • Impact-resistant shingles rated by IBHS**

  • Wind and rain-resistant attic vents

According to WWLTV, homeowner Dana Eness had a FORTIFIED Roof installed on her home right before Hurricanes Zeta and Ida. She said not one shingle was lost on her roof after these storms, but the homes around her without FORTIFIED roofs were severely damaged. Other homeowners could benefit from a FORTIFIED Roof, but there are not enough contractors who are properly trained.

Thankfully, IBHS offers training for contractors to become certified FORTIFIED Roof installers in no time! Through their FORTIFIED Wise™ University, you can learn how to install FORTIFIED Roofs online in a short amount of time for just $100. Plus, for an extra $50, you can be included in their FORTIFIED contractor directory, bringing the fortified roofing jobs to you!
