Proof that composite roofing lasts

Four homeowners share their experience with DaVinci composite roofing on their homes.

There are always the skeptics. Homeowners who are on the fence about investing in composite roofing and not sure it’s worth the extra cost. Today we’re shutting down those doubters. Actually, we’re letting our past customers do the talking for us. Starting with Alex Zausner, who recently contacted DaVinci’s Customer Service Department.

“This is a ‘good news’ email,” said Alex, a resident of Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania. “This is my 21st year with a DaVinci slate roof. I just had it inspected and it’s faultless! I’ve never replaced a tile or had any work done and it looks better than ever!”

21 years and no damage

Alex went on to explain that his DaVinci Multi-Width Slate roof has been through 2 major hurricanes, 6 tropical storms and hundreds of severe weather events. Plus, a tree fell on his roof years ago and there were countless snow and ice storms over the past two decades. Still his roof performed perfectly. All without damage.

“Our family feels so secure under the DaVinci roof,” says Alex. “It’s really ‘invisible’ most of the time… until an event happens or a neighbor has to do roofing work. Then we remember again how smart we were to make this roofing selection.”

Hail bouncing right off of composite

Back in 2010 Dean Imel described the scene as “tennis balls of ice” coming down to destroy the roof on his Oklahoma home. When he looked around his neighborhood, he saw the only roofs that had survived the storm were composite roofs from DaVinci Roofscapes. That’s when Imel decided to invest in his own DaVinci Multi-Width Slate roof. And just in time.

Within months another intense hailstorm hit. “I watched hail that was at least one-inch in diameter repeatedly bounce off our roof,” says Dean. “It didn’t leave a mark. I was impressed!” Since that time Imel has seen many additional storms through his windows, and he continues to rely on his DaVinci roof to keep his family safe from all of them.

15 years surviving severe weather

Al Ruggirello also made a “just in time” roofing decision. Back in early 2015 he had DaVinci slate roofing installed on his Traverse City, Michigan, home. Just several months later a freak storm with four-inch diameter hail damaged many roofs in his neighborhood. But not his roof. The impact-resistant composite roof from DaVinci showed no damage.

“We’ve had some very strong storms since the installation,” says Al. “This roof has held up beautifully. It’s comforting to know our DaVinci roof not only adds to the beauty of our home, it also provides a strong weather barrier during some severe weather situations that are common in northern Michigan.”

14 years fire-free

In 2011, Dan Baer was so excited to get his new DaVinci Slate roof that he threw a roof party. A decade later the California resident was still raving about the fire-resistant composite roof that gives his family a sense of safety.

“We’ve had wildfires in Yorba Linda and Anaheim Hills with many homes lost,” reflects Dan. “Fortunately we have not had to evacuate. And, most importantly, we know that stray wildfire sparks would not affect our roof. Heck, you could drop a lighted road flare on our DaVinci Slate roof and it would merely melt the adjacent shingles. The fire-resistancy of this roof gives us tremendous peace-of-mind.”

Bonus: Composite roofing has selling power

After saying farewell to real cedar shakes on his original roof, Dan made the smart choice to invest in composite slate. He understands his decision has long-term benefits for his family.

“This DaVinci roof has held up extremely well,” said Dan in 2021. “It’s still in ‘like new’ condition. When we sell this home in the future, we know that the roof will be a key selling point. It has the appearance of a true slate roof, adds to the curb appeal of our home and definitely provides protection from the wildfires that plague our area.”
