Performance is a Key Factor in Choosing a New Product

Rudy Gutierrez New Products
July 6, 2020 at 6:00 a.m.

RCS Influencer Rudy Gutierrez says that customer feedback plays a big role in whether a new product gets added to his company’s product mix.

There are a lot of new products on the market that we discover but then quickly lose track of and go back to our usual products. It’s important to learn as much as we can about them because some of these new products can help us save time, contribute toward keeping our workers safe and can improve the quality of the roof performance.

Our company is always looking for better products which is one of the reasons why we enjoy attending industry trade shows – to see the newest roofing solutions. When considering a new product, we look at the warranty, the application method and how it will affect the cost of labor. However, the most important consideration is how it will perform on the roof and if it will deliver the highest quality to our clients.

I think it’s important to keep our clients informed of new products in the roofing industry, they are most likely to be the first ones to approve the use of the new product on their roofs. In some cases, we have offered our clients a test of a new product on a small roof or a section of a roof. We can then monitor that small roof or section of the roof to determine performance and quality of the product. I believe it’s important that our clients provide the critical feedback we need to determine if the new product is going to be part of our product offering.

We are always looking for better products to introduce into our product mix.

Rudy Gutierrez is president and CEO of Shell Roofing Solutions. See his full bio here.
