Pacific Coast Building Products Supplies Materials to CIEF Design Build Competition for High School Students

During the four-month program, 40 participating teams designed and built individual 96 square-foot structures.

For the 38th consecutive year, the Construction Industry Education Foundation (CIEF) held its design and build competition for high school students in Northern California. During the four-month program, each of the 40 participating teams from the region designed and ultimately built individual 96 square-foot structures, testing their abilities to concept and execute their visions. 

The competition, which promotes the building trades to high school students, culminated last week with a two-day building session in Sacramento. Completed structures were evaluated by industry professionals based on the overall design concept, construction quality, code compliance and safety.

Pacific Coast Building Products was a Presenting Sponsor of this year’s event and has supported this competition since its inception. This year, the company provided each team with complementary PABCO Roofing Products asphalt shingles.

“Without the industry support of companies like Pacific Coast Building Products, we couldn’t provide this incredible experience to high school students,” said Katie Kempker, director of youth programs, Construction Industry Education Foundation. “This is an incredibly valuable opportunity for young people to gain hands-on skills, experience the practical application of what they learn in the classroom, and foster lasting relationships that may lead to rewarding careers.” 

Structures built during this year’s event were donated to local nonprofits or were sold with the proceeds donated to local to causes.
