When you listen to people who are truly excited and passionate about what they are talking about, it’s hard not to be excited and passionate, too. That is the case when listening to this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, in which Heidi J. Ellsworth met the leaders of Viotell Metal Concepts — its founder and CEO, Gonzalo Tellez, and its COO, Anthony Ortega.
For the past 10 years, Viotell Metal Concepts has provided unique, custom-designed metal services to Park City, Utah commercial and residential customers. As a roofing and metal envelope contractor, they handle everything from high-end resort-style homes to commercial buildings for ski-in/ski-out neighborhoods in the Wasatch Peaks and Promontory areas.
“We've got a fabrication shop here on the west side of Salt Lake City where we custom make all of our own stuff. It's not just roofing materials and metal materials — they're true pieces of art,” Anthony shared. “We have a passion for metal. That's what we're known for. That's what Gonzalo has built a name on. And we continue to give our crews and our guys that craftsman’s passion to execute in those scopes.”
With 32 years in the industry, Gonzalo built Viotell from the ground up. He recounted his journey to metal roofing, including the early inspiration for his passion for metal.
“Back when I was a kid, my dad owned a welding shop. I learned a lot of the metal trade through my dad. He taught me what metal could be used for with your own hands,” Gonzalo shared. “Throughout life, I went through different stages, and one took me to roofing. I did all kinds of roofing — tear-offs, clean-ups, shingles, shakes. When I started doing metal roofs, it just connected my paths. It was natural to me to be able to see it in a different way than most people do. It was like love at first sight.”
Thankfully, because of their innovative practices and the market trends toward more metal in roofing and siding, this love affair can continue to bloom, and Viotell Metal Concepts can continue to share the love.
“As an industry, metal is kind of the tip of the spear pushing innovation forward and really grabbing large pockets of the market in the roofing arena,” Anthony stated. “The way we see metal and the future of it is really limitless. It's very exciting to be part of that, to be on the leading edge of innovation.”
