Meet Kyle King, Winner of an Optical Comparator

General Coatings Meet Kyle King
June 5, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

By Karen L. Edwards, RCS Editor.

General Coatings is giving away one optical comparator each week to a lucky winner.

Kyle King, President and Owner of James King Roofing in the Seattle, Washington area, was a recent winner of the giveaway. Kyle and I played phone tag for a week or so before we connected.  When I did get him on the line, he was about to attend a webinar, so we rescheduled for later in the day. Finally, we got the chance to spend some time talking and Kyle shared that he is taking advantage of as many learning opportunities as he can while things are a little slower than normal during this pandemic. I thought that was great advice to share with others.

Before our call, I had visited Kyle’s company website to learn a little more about him and the business. I learned that he has a long, rich history in roofing and asked him to share his story. His family’s venture into roofing began with his Dad’s stepfather, Fred Snyder, founding Snyder Roofing & Sheet Metal in 1922. Kyle’s Dad, James, learned to roof working for Snyder Roofing during the summers while he was attending college. When Kyle’s parents met, their plan was to both become teachers, but that plan changed when Fred passed away. James was 28 years old when he took over the company and grew it into one of the largest commercial roofing businesses in the United States over the next 60 years.

Kyle followed in his father’s footsteps and worked at Snyder Roofing running the service departments in both Portland and Seattle. “I retired from Snyder Roofing about three years ago around the age of 54 but retained my ownership in Snyder Roofing,” explained Kyle. After discovering that he was not very good at being retired and missing the work that he loved, he knew he wanted to get back into it. “I decided to start another roofing company and named it after my father,” he said. “I’m proud of the company. A lot of the people here worked at Snyder and they know of my father and his legacy.”

James King Roofing provides commercial roofing and has built a niche for service and restoration using coatings. “I make sure that we stress to customers and people around the market that we are really good at restoration,” he said. “It’s a large part of what we do. Providing excellent service builds opportunities for more work.”

I asked him how he learned of the giveaway and how he uses RoofersCoffeeShop. He said that he follows us online and reads our articles saying that he plans to spend more time on the site while he has time to keep learning.

Now, it’s your chance to win! Visit General Coatings’ RCS directory to learn more and enter the giveaway.
