Improved Walkability when using Tyvek® Protec™ Roofing Underlayments

Improved walkability on underlayments translates into a safer work environment for roofing crews. DuPont delivers with Tyvek® Protec™ new synthetic underlayments.

Every roofing contractor is concerned with ensuring the safety of its crews during tear offs and installation on any roofing job. The nature and design of the building alone can present challenges, not to mention those that come with hazards created by the weather. A surprise rainstorm can cause typical surfaces and underlayments to become slick and dangerous quickly.

It’s not just rain that can create a hazard on the roof. The areas where crews are accessing the roof often become covered with dirt, gravel or other debris that is tracked onto the surface and creates the potential for a slip if not careful.

The new portfolio of Tyvek® Protec™ underlayments is designed to help contractors with such hazards. The product features a unique, embossed top sheet that helps with walkability when dealing with hazards like dirt or water on the roof. Tyvek® Protec™ minimizes concerns with safety issues, keeping areas that can become slick safer to walk on. Water simply beads up, rolls down the channel and right off the roof.

General Contractor Walt Tomala describes how Tyvek® Protec™ roofing underlayments prevails in poor working conditions on the roof. Watch the video.

Tyvek® Protec™ is suitable for use by professional roofing and exteriors contractors in new construction or re-roofing projects as a secondary water barrier on steep-sloped roofs (2:12 or higher) under asphalt shingle, tile, metal, cedar or slate. It is offered in a variety of product grades: Tyvek® Protec™ 120; Tyvek® Protec™ 160 and Tyvek® Protec™ 200; each with increasing quality, durability, strength, warranty protection and UV resistance.

Tyvek® Protec™ lays flat and is wrinkle-free, for ease of installation. It is easy to chalk, and is available in the United States and in Canada from local lumber and roofing dealers. For more information, visit: www.tyvek.com/protec.
