Get Google to work for you

LMH Get Google to Work
April 23, 2024 at 6:00 a.m.

By Emma Peterson.

By creating a strong Google Business Profile, you can build a stronger business.

In a recent  Read, Listen WatchRead, Listen Watch® (RLW) webinar, Karen Edwards hosts Danny Braught from LMH Agency to discuss the advantages of utilizing Google platforms to elevate your business. Danny is an expert in digital marketing with over a decade of experience in helping contractors and other members of the industry improve their visibility.

He explained that one of the most powerful tools for people in the industry is Google and that leveraging it is key to getting customer engagement. Danny shared, “Google Business Profile is a free listing on Google for your business. It tells pretty much everything that somebody would want to know upfront about your business in one section without them having to do another click into your website.” For context, a Statista article from late last year reported that 83.4% of people choose Google as their search engine, making it a powerful space for advertisers.

But how exactly does a Google Business Profile (GBP) work? The first step is finding your account, as it might already exist even if you don’t know about it. Danny explained, “Depending on what browser you're on, if you're logged in and you're on Google Chrome, you can just search your name. If Google has already indexed it that you have a business at this location, you can go through and claim that listing.” After claiming it, it’s time to begin editing it to include up-to-date information and relevant reviews and testimonials. Danny shared, “It gives viewers the opportunity to get directions, click to call and then they can also message you. And so, you want to make sure that you're staying on top of those.” Staying on top of your activity consistently is key, as Google recognizes if you are inactive or unresponsive and your business will subsequently not show up as quickly on the results page.

Danny also said it is important to keep an ear out for how Google is organizing those result pages. He explained, “In terms of algorithm changes, I never know what's actually coming up. They don't tell you before they do it.” Additionally, there are always new features releasing. This can seem very overwhelming, but experts like LMH Agency are here to help businesses manage these profiles and stay on top of their platform activity.
