Gearing Up for Hail and Wildfire Season

Tilcor Hail and Wildfire Season

Stone-coated steel roofing systems are durable and sustainable, offering superior protection against the elements.

With hail season quickly approaching and wildfire season following shortly after, now is the time for roofing upgrades to ensure maximum protection from the elements.  When your customers are searching for the right product, why not recommend one that is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions? Tilcor Roofing Systems specializes in providing stone-coated steel roofing systems that protect homes against wind, hail, fire, and other natural disasters.  Their informative brochure has everything you need to know about stone-coated steel roofing systems.

Ross Roof Group manufactures Tilcor products in Auckland, New Zealand.  Originally named Ross Concrete Products, the company specialized in concrete blocks and tiles in 1942.  Throughout the last 70 years, the company has evolved into what is now Ross Roof Group.

Tilcor products have been installed in over 80 countries and exposed to some of the harshest environments.  These lightweight tiles are engineered to endure wind speeds up to 120mph. With a Class A non combustible rating, they have the highest rating in terms of fire resistance.  And in the United States, Tilcor’s steel roof tiles have a Class 4 rating for hail impact resistance, which is the highest UL (Underwriters Laboratories) 2218 rating.  Insurance discounts are often provided to those who use impact resistant shingles.

Tilcor tiles are individually fastened using an interlocking system that doesn’t require any structural reinforcements.  In the event of an earthquake, Tilcor tiles are less likely to fall through the ceiling as opposed to other roofing materials.  While other systems typically leave gaps and screws exposed to the elements, the CF (concealed fastening) system protects fastening elements, helping make the roofs even more reliable.

Their stone-coated steel tiles use a protective steel substrate called Zincalume, which is then coated with either an acrylic satin finish or with natural stone granules.  Zincalume “combines the corrosion protection of aluminum with the sacrificial protection of zinc,” as mentioned in the brochure. The fact that Tilcor tiles are engineered from high grade Zincalume coated steel, makes this material “one of the most recyclable and sustainable building products in the world,” according to Tilcor.

Tilcor provides energy efficient roofing.  Unlike other roofing products, Tilcor’s tiles are elevated from the roof deck, which creates a natural air flow known as Above-Sheathing Ventilation (ASV).  Ventilation is key to a roof’s survival. On average, a family of four produces two to four gallons of water each day from cooking, laundry, bathing, and breathing, making ventilation a necessity.  This air movement prevents the collection of stagnant air, heat gain in the summer, and heat loss in the winter.

The brochure highlights the four tile profiles available through Tilcor: CF Shake, CF Shingle, Craftsman Shake, and Antica.  There are a variety of color options available to match everyone’s unique roofing preference. Tilcor’s tiles resemble wood shake without the fire hazard, asphalt shingles without the risk of them breaking down and ending up in landfills, and Mediterranean tiles without the added weight.

Before the hail hits, consider upgrading your customers to a Tilcor stone-coated steel roof system.  Strong, durable, and sustainable, Tilcor’s tiles will protect against severe weather conditions and any potential natural disasters.  With a variety of options and styles, Tilcor has something for everyone.
