GAF joins in ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate completion of The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama facility

Tuscaloosa project builds on GAF’s nearly 50-year presence in Tuscaloosa and its longstanding commitment to the community.

GAF, North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer,  joined local leaders Thursday, September 10, at a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the completion of the renovation of The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa. The event featured remarks from the Chamber, GAF and community representatives highlighting the collaborative effort between private and public groups to bring the new facility to life. Following the remarks, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held, which concluded with an open house showcasing the newly renovated facility.

“This investment helps ensure our building will continue to support businesses, workers and organizations that drive our local economy here in Tuscaloosa and across West Alabama,” said Kyle South, president and CEO of The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama. “GAF has been a valued partner in our community for decades, and this project is another example of their commitment to creating a lasting impact in West Alabama.”

The newly renovated, state-of-the-art workforce and community development center is designed to support local business growth, attract and cultivate talent and advance economic development across the region. As part of the renovation, GAF donated a new, fully adhered GAF EverGuard® TPO roofing system which was installed by GAF-certified contractor Bama Roofing to help protect the facility for years to come.

“We were excited to partner with Bama Roofing to donate and install a new roof for this facility and support an organization that does so much for local workforce development and businesses in the area,” said Scott Baldwin, GAF-Tuscaloosa plant manager. “What makes Tuscaloosa so special is its deep sense of pride, hard work and a community that takes care of one another. We are proud to be a part of that and to serve and support the city.”

The project builds on GAF’s nearly 50-year legacy in Tuscaloosa, where its manufacturing facility employs more than 160 local community members and produces enough roofing materials each day to protect more than 300 homes. Alongside its manufacturing operations, GAF has produced and donated materials for more than 100 homes in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa over the past decade, as well as partnered with Habitat and Strengthen Alabama Homes over the past year on a FORTIFIED™ roofing initiative to help homes better withstand severe weather and donated a new low-slope roof for the Hay College Center at Stillman College.

The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama plays a critical role in regional economic and community development. In addition to housing the Chamber and West AlabamaWorks, the facility serves as a regional hub for prominent nonprofit organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the Tuscaloosa Education Foundation, Junior Achievement and other community partners. Together, these organizations support hundreds of small businesses, train thousands of workers and provide essential services throughout the region.
