ES-1: The roof edge standard for metal systems

Chicago Metal Supply ES-1 Metal Edge
November 22, 2023 at 9:00 a.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

When you choose an assembly that meets ES-1, you can trust that your system choice will perform at or above your expectations.

With Chicago Metal Supply’s ES-1 perimeter system, rest assured that you are installing a quality metal roof edge system that works in every environment. From the highest wind resistance to lighter duty, this system is built with premium heavy-gauge materials that will meet the strictest standards.

Why choose ES-1?

The perimeter of the roof is the most susceptible to wind damage or blow off problems compared to other areas of a roof system. Additionally, the main reason for wind-related problems is due to inadequate design and attachment of the perimeter metal. Because this problem is so prevalent in the industry, ES-1 testing was developed to help provide a safeguard. This standard test puts metal edgings, gravel stop and copings through pull testing that correlates to wind uplift forces on a building in high wind conditions.

It has now been incorporated into most state building codes, as well as the International Building Code. When you choose an ES-1 system, you guarantee that your metal perimeter meets building code requirements and that it will stand up against any wind conditions. The testing standard gives you reassurance that these systems have been tested to their point of failure and engineers can easily see if it meets the wind criteria for your specific project.

Perimeter system options

No matter what the project, find the edge that works for you and protects your building from design failures. Choose from the following options:

  • Drip edge
  • Box gutter
  • Fascia extender
  • Fascia cover
  • Snap gravel stop
  • Gravel stop – standard
  • Spring tite coping
  • Econo coping

Learn more about ES-1 perimeter systems and know that from the highest wind resistance to lighter duty, Chicago Metal Supply has you covered.
