Demand for IKO Performance Products is Trending Mainstream

As homeowners prioritize elevated shingle performance, company answers.

As extreme weather — including hail, hurricanes, tornadoes, torrential rain, high winds and heat — continues to pummel North America with increased frequency, homeowners and contractors are demanding elevated shingle performance. In short, performance products have gone mainstream. In response, IKO, a global manufacturer of residential roofing shingles and commercial waterproofing and roofing products, has prioritized the development and expansion of product lines that meet the needs of these climate and customer demands.

“Severe weather activity further solidifies the need for weather-performance, especially wind resistance, in roofing shingles,” said Scott Campbell, director of field sales, US, IKO. “A roof — whether for a home or a commercial property — is the most essential aspect of shelter. It silently endures high winds, hail, heat, cold, moisture and flying debris, all the while keeping what’s under it safe. If a roof fails, everything under it may be at risk of damage.”

Responding to homeowners who demand high performance products without sacrificing beauty and curb-appeal, IKO has announced the new Nordic product line and the expansion of its Dynasty™ product line for 2019.

“This shift toward performance products that look as good as they perform has led to an increased demand for IKO’s Dynasty™ performance laminated shingles, and we expect similar demand for our new performance product, NordicÔ. Even in the most high-wind and storm-prone areas, these oversized, heavy-duty shingles will stand guard as a home’s first line of defense against the elements, and have limited warranty coverage for winds of up to 130 mph/210 km/hr.,” continued Campbell.

Nordic

“IKO is pleased to announce its newest performance laminate shingle, Nordic,” said Mark Okland, product development manager, North America. “These heavy-duty, flexible shingles are now available in nine hi-definition colors. They are constructed of a fiberglass mat that’s given an extra-thick coating of quality IKO polymer modified asphalt, and they are a top choice for extreme weather protection, even in cold weather applications.”

IKO Nordic shingles feature IKO’s innovative ArmourZone® 1-1/4" wide, reinforced nailing surface, ensuring strong fastening power. Nails applied in this area are optimally positioned to help resist nail pull-through and shingle blow-off. In fact, shingles with the ArmourZone have been designed to help resist winds of up to 130 mph/210 km/hr. The Nordic shingle construction also includes FastlockTM sealant strips, formulated to be thick and aggressive while creating a strong bond to the shingles below. This helps ensure maximum protection against wind uplift, blow-off and water penetration.

Nordic shingles offer a Class 4 Impact Resistance Rating — among the highest in the industry — which enables homeowners to obtain a discount on home insurance premiums, if available in their area.“Nordic achieved this rating through independent testing in accordance with the FM 4473 standards during which man-made ice balls were propelled at the Nordic shingles with an air cannon,” continued Okland.* (This rating is not to be construed as any type of express or implied warranty or guarantee of the impact performance of this shingle by the manufacturer, supplier or installers.)

Available in nine high-definition colors, Nordic shingles combine the same advanced color-blending technology used for the Dynasty product line, with deep shadow bands for added dimension and the high-end look and visual texture of genuine wood shakes or slate tiles

Dynasty

Dynasty, premium laminated performance shingles offering protection from inclement weather and peace of mind, now offers four brand new high-definition colors — Shadow Brown, Emerald Green, Monaco Red and Atlantic Blue.

“This increase to 15 total colors for the Dynasty product line is a direct response to customer and distributor demand for high-definition blends and multiple hues when selecting their desired shingle,” said Mark Okland, product development manager, North America. “Because the roof accounts for up to 40 percent of the curb appeal of a home, we’re seeing homeowners putting greater priority both on color options and performance.”

IKO’s Dynasty provides an answer to these dual needs — ample color options and the performance aspects that an increase in severe weather dictates. Dynasty shingles feature the same innovative ArmourZone reinforced nailing surface, Fastlock sealant and the 130-mph/210 km/hr limited warranty as Nordic.
