3 Considerations to Make When Buying a Used Gutter Machine

By Evelyn Witterholt.

If your contracting business is on the market for a used gutter machine, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Contractors who want to offer gutter services or new gutter businesses will need a gutter machine. But for those with a tighter budget, buying a new machine may not be an option. Used gutter machines are always available and will often work just fine, but there are some things you must consider before buying one. Rick Zand from New Tech Machinery (NTM) has written a handy guide on what businesses should think about before purchasing a used machine.

Here are three key considerations Rick suggests you make before buying a used gutter machine:

1 - Budget

The budget you are working with is most likely the biggest consideration you need to make when deciding if you want a new or used gutter machine. Once you establish the amount you can feasibly spend on a machine, this can help you narrow down your search. Rick suggests that you can get financing on some new machines and that this can sometimes provide a solid return on investment.

2 - Size of your business

Larger businesses can benefit from a newer machine, but if your business is small, then a used gutter machine might be a better option. A part-time gutter business can benefit more from a used gutter machine as it is less of a financial risk.

3 - Maintenance and repairs

Whether your machine is new or used, you’ll need to maintain and repair it. A used gutter machine may need more repairs than a new one, depending on how its previous owner treated it. You also want to see what kind of warranty the previous owner has on the machine and whether or not that warranty can be transferred to you. Rick says that a new machine from NTM comes with service and technical support as well as in-house training on how to maintain it.
