This is what i have to say about roofing.I started this job in 1986, when my neighbour asked me if i was fearful of heights. At that time i was connecting high steel... So my reply was, yes i am. You must respect the heights. I find the Newbies think that gravitate doesn't affect them. Now on the flip side of that coin, you have people that need a harness, and rope on a 4/12. Why do i love what i do? well we all know it's about the money... let's get that out of the way. Now that being said. Let's get to the root of this. OMG I love roofing. You pull up to the job site do a walk around pull the ladders off the truck and start taking it on. You look at the chimney, thinking "you might need to replace that flashing. If it's a 12/12 even better. I'm no 4/12 roofer, although i like them once in awhile. The Spring "being a season", is the greatest there's still a little snow on the ground you can see some green new grass growing. Birds are singing. And as we are "Roofers" were at the top of the world. ya i've keep a diary.... but it's a roofng diary, i missed a few years on it, but when i reflect on it, it makes me realise who i am I AM A ROOFER.... So let's all be careful out there.
thats funny old school. my wife tells me i got a bug, but thats its crawled up my a$$. lol patty hope you didnt take my sittin in the office comment wrong just my choice. the ladies in the office do make our days. makes it feel less like work and more like family.
i think part of the answer lies right here on this website. we all joined on our common interest of roofing. so we could communicate and learn from others. at some point in every roofers carrer they make the decision weather this is for them or not some last a day or less some longer. once youve made that decision to stick with it youre hooked. i love getting on the roof tearing off pitch all day laying out roof and going down the ladder at end of day and feel like i did something instead of sittin in an office all day. then gettin up next day still pitch burned and doin it again! tho last 3 years gotten lucky did new construction 2 years and service last year. i cant wait for spring to get out there and learn some more.
I just live and breathe it. What can ! say?
I read this http://www.inc.com/magazine/20110201/the-way-i-work-gary-vaynerchuk.html, Great ideas and some cool info and interviews, I personally don't like roofing. I'm sure it shows in my replies. I don't mind repair work in small amounts. What I do like is the outside and the freedom to make my own schedule. Take a repair if " I " want to. Independence is what I like. The thing I don't like about the insurance work is I'm under layers of bosses, Someone else's thumb and watchful gaze. Freedom is what I want and demand of myself when I roll out of bed in the morning to face the day ahead. B) :) :) B) Deep Down In Florida Where The Sun Shines Damn Near Every Day
TRG, Yup you've encapuluaed it all. "i did that" B)
