Three Ways Specifiers are Using DORA

DORA SPRI and specifiers

By Michelle Jones, SPRI.

How you can use DORA’s database of roof system’s performance test data.

Specifying the right materials and assemblies for commercial roofing systems can be challenging. Between satisfying specific performance and safety requirements, and even with design considerations in place, finding and utilizing the right resources and databases to locate the information you need can complicate the process. Many database and lookup resources available today are limited in scope and functionality. Enter DORA

The Directory of Roof Assemblies (DORA) is a comprehensive database service of roof systems’ performance test data generated in accordance with standards referenced in Chapter 15 of the International Building Code (IBC). If you haven’t signed up for DORA yet, here are three ways roofing professionals, specifically specifiers, are currently using DORA:

1 - Find alternative assemblies and materials.

With today’s supply chain challenges, DORA has an incredibly easy-to-use interface, allowing you to quickly and easily search for alternative systems and materials. As mentioned by one specifier at a recent International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) event, “the usability of DORA’s interface is the best in the industry. It’s very user friendly.” DORA has allowed this specifier to quickly find like systems when frequently used assemblies include components that are unavailable.

2 - Save your favorite listings.

When you create an account within DORA, you can save your most frequently used systems. You’ll have your own personal Project Library to create projects and save specific listings to each project. This will not only save time but allow you to quickly reference current and past projects.

3 - DORA is so easy to use, it’s a mobile app.

Save DORA on the home page of your phone as a progressive web app. As long as you have your mobile device, you’ll have a full database of listings in your pocket everywhere you go.

DORA is a service that is free to the public. It includes wind uplift and impact resistance information for single ply and modified bitumen roof systems. Assemblies may be easily searched, viewed, saved and printed. Visit www.dora-directory.com today to sign up for your free account and get started.
