This Game-changing Shingle is Designed With the Contractor in Mind!

TAMKO Titan XT Shingle
July 12, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.

By Evelyn Witterholt, RCS Reporter.

Learn about the innovative features of TAMKO’s TITAN XT® shingle.

For more than 75 years, TAMKO has been crafting quality products with the customer and roofing contractor in mind. Their latest innovation, the TITAN XT® shingle, is no exception. When producing this asphalt shingle, TAMKO designed it with features that address contractors' top concerns. The end result is a powerhouse shingle that is both durable and aesthetically pleasing.

In a recent webinar, we got to hear from TAMKO company representatives about the various innovative features Titan XT has to offer. One of these features is the shingle’s wide nail zone, which is up to five times larger than their standard shingle. In addition, the Titan XT shingle only takes four nails for installation to help secure the shingle against wind speeds of up to 160 mph.

“Some of the things that we've heard from contractors who have gone in ahead and installed the Titan, they've said, ‘Listen, if you can't install this shingle, you probably shouldn't be in roofing because it's so easy,’” Melissa Dunson, TAMKO’s manager of marketing and communications tells us.

Another great feature of Titan XT is its AnchorLock™ layer, a poly-fabric reinforcement strip that anchors nails into the shingle and secures it in place on the roof. What makes this poly strip unique is that it’s non-woven, which gives it a more secure texture as opposed to woven strips, which are more tarp-like. The result of this feature is a stronger shingle that lasts longer and helps withstand extreme wind conditions.

Titan XT shingles have been put through rigorous testing, including windstorm tests. One TAMKO employee in the Midwest had their roof re-done with the TITAN XT shingles and recently faced a major windstorm. In wind speeds of up to 100 mph, not a single shingle was lost from that roof.

“That TAMKO employee was so astonished and the roofer who was doing this person's house was so astonished by it,” Melissa said. “I think that's one of the reasons we get so excited about talking about Titan XT, is because it's actually performing and people are seeing it perform, people are impressed. We're constantly amazed by the things it's able to do.”
