SPRI to canvass WD-1 wind design standard

SPRI to canvass WD-1 wind design standard
July 24, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.

SPRI's revises their Wind Design Standard Practice.

SPRI, the association representing sheet membrane and component suppliers to the commercial roofing industry, announced that it is revising ANSI/SPRI WD-1 “Wind Design Standard Practice for Roofing Assemblies” and plans to canvass the document for re-approval as an American National Standard.

ANSI/SPRI WD-1 provides a methodology based on rational analysis to enhance securement for wind uplift resistance of non-ballasted assemblies; single-ply, modified bitumen and built-up roofing system assemblies installed over any type of roof deck. The rational analysis will be based on tested assembly data compared to calculated wind loads to extrapolate enhancements for securement within appropriate roof areas. The proposed revision will prepare the document for adoption into the International Building Code, with references to Florida Roofing Application Standards (RAS) 117 & 137, which have already been adopted by the state of Florida.

SPRI developed the ANSI/SPRI WD-1 standard as a reference for the design, specification and installation of ballasted single-ply roofing systems. It was last revised and reaffirmed in 2020.

Those wishing to participate in the canvassing process should contact SPRI at info@spri.org.
