Sika’s Roofing and Waterproofing’s team of innovators work hard to create sustainable solutions for construction applications and beyond. Notably, their team has recently launched a high-performance product aimed at streamlining the resurfacing process.
Old asphalt and gravel roofs pose environmental and practical challenges when it’s time for replacement. These traditional systems are inherently inefficient — absorbing heat due to their dark surfaces, which increases cooling costs. Their layered structure makes leaks difficult to detect and repair and the materials themselves are far from eco-friendly.
Sika offers a smarter alternative. With its Liquid Applied Membranes (LAM), Sika enables building owners to refurbish existing asphalt and gravel roofs without the need for a full tear-off. This innovative solution transforms outdated roofing into a modern, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible system — while maintaining full warranty eligibility. It also minimizes operational disruptions, reduces labor costs and eliminates unnecessary waste.
The Gravel Roof Resurfacing System is a sustainable, high-performance solution designed to restore aged gravel-surfaced asphalt roofs. It combines solvent-free resins with 100% recycled aggregate to create a seamless, durable surface.
At the core of the system is Sikalastic®-720 Base, a two-component aromatic urethane blended with proprietary CRM Crumb Rubber. This semi-leveling base fills in surface irregularities, creating a smooth foundation for the top coat. The top layer features a low-VOC Sikalastic® liquid-applied membrane, delivering excellent solar reflectance, ease of application and minimal downtime. The result? A fully warranted, environmentally friendly roof that performs like new — without the cost and disruption of a full replacement.
