The 2025 Projects of the Year winners highlight application excellence across complex roofing and waterproofing projects.

Sika Roofing & Waterproofing has announced its 2025 Projects of the Year winners, recognizing outstanding achievement among members of their approved applicator network. The annual competition honors application excellence across five categories: low-slope new construction, low-slope reroof, steep slope, waterproofing and sustainability.

Among this year’s recognized projects is the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., completed by Patuxent of Laurel, Maryland. The roof replacement covered roughly 800,000 square feet across 96 roof sections, requiring extensive coordination to support an active civic venue that hosted events on more than 70% of construction days. Working through a design-build partnership with DRH and Range, Patuxent helped deliver a durable, solar-ready Sarnafil roofing system designed for the building’s long-term needs.

The project included upgraded insulation, high-density cover boards and an 80-mil Sarnafil PVC membrane. Specialized solutions were required for the South Barrel Roof, with its steep and highly visible design, as well as the Mechanical Roof, which required full tear-off and reconstruction while mechanical operations continued uninterrupted.

Silktown Roofing Inc. of Manchester, Connecticut, was also recognized for their work at Solnit Children’s Center in Middletown, Connecticut. The approximately 85,000-square-foot roof replacement called for a system that provided long-term performance while maintaining the campus’s cohesive appearance. Silktown installed a Sarnafil Décor Roof System in Patina Green with profile ribs to replicate the look of standing-seam metal and provide the watertight integrity of hot-air welded seams.

Phoenix Roofing of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, earned recognition for the Pittsburgh Terminal Modernization Project and Multimodal Complex in Pittsburgh. The project marked the largest undertaking in the company’s history, with more than 500,000 square feet of Sarnafil roof membrane installed across both sites. The work required more than 18,000 man-hours over 2.5 years and careful phasing to maintain safety and facility operations.

Together, the winning projects demonstrate the scale, planning and technical skill behind high-performing commercial roofing systems.
