Showing Appreciation for a Vietnam Veteran by Gifting a New Roof

RCS Tampa Veteran 3.31
April 8, 2023 at 3:00 p.m.

By Yvette Cruz.

A U.S. war veteran is reminded of the kindness that strangers share for military members when he is given a new roof.

Living in Tampa, Florida, is an army veteran named David Rowe. Having served in the Vietnam War, David has seen his fair share of hardship in this world. But, showing kindness and spreading love is Owens Corning

Through the Owens Corning National Roof Deployment Project, David was gifted a new roof and installation all for free. Owens Corning partnered with Wayne Gonzalez Roofing and Habitat for Humanity of Hillsborough Country to make this happen for David.

Ownes Corning Roofing launched the Roof Deployment Project, with the help of Support Our Troops®, in 2016 with hopes of bringing a network of independent contractors and military families together and provide free, new roofs to those who have sacrificed so much for our country. Support Our Troops® is a charity that specializes in strengthening morale and cares for the well-being of American military service members and their families. Partnering with Owens Corning, the Roof Deployment Project was designed to show this country’s gratitude to our soldiers.

Executive Director of Support Our Troops® Martin C. Boire, stated, “The Roof Deployment Project will play a key role in bettering the lives of service men and women and their families.” Since the beginning of the project, more than 400 military families have received a new roof.

David told ABC Action News this is something he would not be able to afford on his own. "I'm very proud of it because a lot of people that care about you, that you don't know, and that's the main thing about it, is people care about each other.”

Do you know of someone in the industry who is ‘doing good deeds’ in their community? Help us catch them at it. Send news and information to info@rooferscoffeeshop.com.
