Roofing Influencers are Busy

Jon Stantz Education for Employees
June 5, 2019 at 12:56 p.m.

RCS Roofing Influencer Jon Stantz shares a few gems on overall education of your employees during a very busy time of year.

For many contractors the education comes during the winter months, especially in winter climates.  For Jon Stantz of Pell Roofing and Siding in Brazil, Indiana, he is honest as the day is long and recognizes they could do more during the summer months but they need to be working.  “We need to do more about education.  There are so many changes in materials, OSHA regulations, safety issues,” states Stantz.  “I could probably have a class one day a month but now is our busiest time.”

And with the rough winter this last year, the Pell Roofing team does not always have the time once the sun begins to shine.  “Unfortunately, we do not have the luxury of a year-round warm climate here in Indiana, we need to make hay while the sun shines so to speak,” continued Stantz.  “We will have educational updates and training later in the year.  We will focus mostly on information about safety and materials.  A lot of that training also happens informally on the rooftop or job site during the summer, sort of learn as you go.”

One of the reasons that Jon has been so engaged in the Coffee Shop for so long is the educational benefits.  “We have to give our crews as many options as possible,” said Stantz.  “We encourage them to visit the Coffee Shop for safety and product information year-round.  The webinars and podcasts are great for our on-the-go culture right now.  We can’t stop learning but we also can’t stop working.”

“I realize that may not be the best method but not sure what else we can do this time of season,” concluded Stantz.  “The weather has been terrible this spring and we need to get going."

Jon Stantz is a supervisor, salesperson and repairman for Pell Roofing and Siding in Brazil, Indiana. See his full bio here.
