Roof Ventilation is Key in Preventing Water Damage!

Chicago Metal Preventing Water Damage

By Anna Lockhart.

Proper roof ventilation is incredibly important in preventing dampness and the damage it can cause over time.

As it becomes more common for homeowners and building owners to seek better insulation for their buildings as a way to lower energy consumption, the need for proper ventilation education and practices is crucial to preventing possible damages that happen when venting is improperly handled. While precautions can be taken to prevent damage such as dampness and mold, many people do not know the basic precautions to take, such as using roof vents.

Roof vents, like the ones created by Chicago Metal Supply, are designed to ensure a roof is properly ventilated when insulation is not spread throughout an entire home or building. As many believe insulation is only for walls and ceilings of the main floors of the structure, leaving the attic space under the roof uninsulated is a recipe for potential damage.  With roof ventilation systems installed, condensation from the air cannot form on the underside of the roof as it would without the vent, preventing moisture damage.

Roof ventilation systems come in a variety of forms, fit for a number of different building styles both residential and commercial.

As an example of the variety, here is an offerings list from Chicago Metal Supply's product line:

  • Breather (aura) vents
  • Stationary vents
  • Goose neck vents
  • Mushroom vents
  • Soil stacks
  • Window louver vents
  • Custom louver vents

Roof ventilation systems are simple solutions that can save homeowners and building owners a ton of time and money by preventing damage to joists, insulation and even ceilings or walls. There is a ventilation system out there that is designed to fit any building’s needs. Preventing the development of wet spots that can eventually lead to caved-in spots or mold growth, is a key function roofing ventilation. It is a must for saving time and money through damage prevention.
