Roof on Veteran’s 30-year-old Home Repaired for Free

Owens Corning caught doing good
July 27, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.

By Kole Moxley.

Thanks to the contributions of multiple organizations, Deborah Scott can save money for other repairs on her home.

Deborah Scott recalls her father telling herself and her seven sisters to “buy yourself a house and some land because God isn’t making any more land.”

Following the advice of her father, Deborah purchased a one-acre lot in Kent County, Maryland in 1989, and by 1992 she had a one-and-a-half story house, complete with a garage.

In the 30 years since her home was built, there have been some repairs that needed to be done, one of those repairs being a new roof. The current roof had leaks in the dining room, living room and the upstairs bedroom. Deborah had been saving up money for a new roof, but delayed repairs due to limited funds. That’s when a couple of organizations decided to step in and help.

The first of the organizations was Rebuilding Together Kent County who helped Deborah get selected as a recipient of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project, a nationwide effort run by Owens Corning to support and show gratitude for veterans and their families — Deborah served in the United States Army and retired after 20 years of service. Owens Corning donated all of the roofing materials for Deborah’s new roof, while JDH Remodeling donated the labor for the project.

JDH Remodeling is an Owens Corning Platinum roofing contractor that is based in St. Leonard, Maryland. Owner Jim Dodson and his crew of ten completed the whole project in one day. Thanks to the contributions from Owens Corning and JDH Remodeling, Deborah is now able to allocate the funds she was originally planning on using for her roof for other home improvement projects she has planned.

“We are grateful to the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project and JDH Remodeling for their generous donations of materials and labor to make sure one more of our neighbors is dry during the next storm,” said Rebuilding Together Kent County Executive Director Genevieve Croker to Kent County News. “We are honored to participate in a program that serves those who have so heroically served our country.”

Do you know of someone in the industry who is ‘doing good deeds’ in their community? Help us catch them at it. Send news and information to info@rooferscoffeeshop.com.
