Honoring Earth Day Every Day

KARNAK - Blog - Earth Day
April 22, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.

By Chris Huettig, KARNAK.

Restoring the roof instead of tearing off and replacing is better for the environment.

Tearing off roofs results in a lot of waste for landfills. It also takes additional labor and time, adding to the cost of a roof replacement. It used to be that was the only choice when it came to a poorly performing roof or one that was at the end of its lifecycle. But that’s not the case anymore, there is an option.

On Earth Day, which began almost 50 years ago on April 22, 1970, we are very aware of the need to take care of our planet and our environment. Academia and organizations across the world report on the environment and what we can do to help reduce global warming and improve our planet.

At KARNAK, we are honoring the Earth every day through the installation of environmentally friendly roof coating systems. We take it one step further by supplying products that can restore a tired, failing roof back to like-new condition, extending its life and keeping the waste out of the landfill.

In addition to restoring the roof, the coating systems are reflective, meaning they reduce the urban heat island effect, reflecting the sun’s rays rather than absorbing them for improved interior comfort and in turn reduce the amount of energy used to cool the building. Most KARNAK reflective coating systems are ENERGY STAR® rated, Cool Roof Rating Council rated, FM approved, UL listed, contribute toward buildings earning LEED certification and comply with California’s Title 24 requirements. KARNAK reflective coating systems can be applied over most existing low-slope roof types including built-up asphalt, modified bitumen, metal, single-ply, concrete and previously coated roofs.

So, the next time a building owner calls you because their roof is wearing out and failing, don’t just recommend and bid on a replacement. Consider the environment, the cost savings for the owner, and all of the other benefits that come with an Earth-friendly, sustainable solution like roof restoration.
