Owens Corning University introduces Virtual Reality (VR) training

Immersive learning helps roofers master real-world installations anytime, in any weather.

Owens Corning University (OCU) is expanding its digital training offerings with the launch of OCU VR, available in English and Spanish. The proprietary OCU VR Headset Bundle enables crew members to learn, practice and master real-world roofing installations anytime, in any weather conditions, before stepping foot on the roof.

A more efficient approach to learning 

OCU VR is an immersive training experience designed to help team members not only learn critical roofing skills but apply and retain what they learn. The OCU VR bundle includes a Pico 4 Ultra Enterprise Headset, two controllers, a charger and set-up guide. Users can access training on key roofing topics, including shingle offset installation, ridge ventilation, flashing techniques and deck inspections. The effectiveness of VR learning has been demonstrated by studies finding that employee retention rates improved up to 80% one year after VR training, compared to 20% one week after traditional training.

Easy to use and designed for continuous learning

Getting started with OCU VR is simple and seamless. Platinum and Preferred Contractors can log in to their OCConnect account to purchase the OCU VR Headset Bundle, and each shipment includes an easy-to-follow setup guide that walks users through powering on the headset, logging in and beginning their training experience. A “learn mode” walks users through content in a step-by-step format while educating on the importance of proper installation. An assessment mode transfers a user’s score back to OCU and a certificate of completion can be downloaded and printed.

OCU VR is designed with continuous learning in mind. Additional courses based on the OCCraft curriculum will be automatically added to OCU VR headsets via Wi-Fi as they become available.
