In 1997, Geoff Stone brought European metal panel technology to North America when he founded MetalForming LLC Since then, MetalForming has been a mainstay in the metal folding machine industry and although Geoff is retiring, a new CEO means a bright future for the company. Recently, the company appointed Stephen Gosk to be their new CEO and he has great plans to grow their business even more.
In a recent podcast, live from METALCON, we got to hear from Geoff and Stephen about how the major company change is affecting the business. One thing Stephen wants to retain from Geoff’s run of the company is their core values, including focusing on their customers by solving their metal-related problems.
“That's going to be our challenge, is to grow the business, and scale the business, but not lose any of the core reasons why the business came to be,” Stephen says. “Like any company, we need to evolve and leverage all of that. But we have a great foundation to start from.”
One major change the company is looking to make is incorporating more automation in their business. Because Geoff does a lot of work with European vendors, he has seen automation rising exponentially over there and predicts it will do the same in North America. By passing the reins over to Stephen, he hopes that this aspect of their company will continue to grow, especially because it helps with the growing labor shortage crisis.
“We are developing a lot of automation products with our European vendors, as we speak,” Geoff says. “The machines are so intelligent now, and have the ability to communicate so well, that we can monitor those machines remotely very easily.”
