Maine roofing contractor Norman Elvin will be recognized by Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce for his longtime service to the community.

By Karen L. Edwards, RCS Editor.

According to www.centralmaine.com, Norman Elvin, president and co-founder of G&E Roofing will be awarded the 2018 Peter G. Thompson Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming 2018 Kenney Awards gala.

Elvin started the business in 1975 and has been giving back to the community ever since. He told Betty Adams of centralmaine.com that he credits his parents for inspiring his philanthropy as they were supporters of the local food bank for years. Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce President and CEO told Adams that their committee nominated him as an “accomplished businessman and philanthropist, for his dedication and enthusiasm to the community, and he’s just a humble business professional.”

Elvin says that he’s fortunate to have been successful over the years and he gives back because he has the resources to do so. He is one of three donors who donated $50,000 or more toward the construction of the new Augusta Food Bank. Elvin serves on the board of Kennebec Savings Bank, the Augusta Board of Trade, the Boys & Girls Club of Kennebec Valley, the Skating Alliance of Maine and Grace Academy. He is former board president of the Kennebec Valley YMCA. He encourages his employees to be involved in the community and in 2013, his assistant, Sue Grenier, received the KVCC Community Service Award.
