Let’s Get Ready for the VARP 56th Annual Summer Convention!

VARP 56th Annual Summer Convention Podcast
August 1, 2023 at 12:00 p.m.

By Adam Cabrera.

Professional development, networking opportunities and fun-filled activities, VARP gears up for its 56th Annual Summer Convention.

The 56th Annual Summer Convention organized by the Virginia Association of Roofing Professionals (VARP) is fast approaching. That’s why in this new episode of Roofing Road Trips episode, host Megan Ellsworth sat down with Heather Greenwell and Rick Heath Carlisle from VARP to hear what the association is all about and what they have planned for this summer's convention.

For over half a century, the convention has gone beyond the bounds of a traditional trade show or seminar and is focused instead on celebrating industry achievements, discussing collective issues and fostering strong networking opportunities.

"I've been working with the group for 17 years now," says Heather, the current executive director of VARP. "For 56 years, the VARP Summer Convention has been a vehicle for roofing professionals, contractors, suppliers, consultants, to come together once a year to strengthen everyone who's attending individually, as well as the Virginia roofing industry collectively."

But the event isn't all business. It offers a fun and relaxing environment where professionals can unwind and get to know each other on a personal level. The convention even features an annual cornhole tournament, now in its ninth year, adding an extra layer of fun to the event.

"We worked hard to create this atmosphere of collegiality and comradery so that business competitors can come together and hang out and enjoy each other's company and really work together for the industry," says Heather.

Rick, an independent rep for Carlisle Roofing and a past president of VARP, highlights the benefits of joining the association, "All the members of VARP are licensed certified contractors. We're very active on the government affairs side, staying in front of issues... that either are good for roofing and construction and/or bad for roofing and construction."

Listen to the Roofing Road Trips to hear more about the 56th Annual Summer Convention which will be held in early August.
