Grieving Navy Veteran Gifted New Roof

Caught doing good grieving veteran gifted new roof
August 21, 2022 at 6:00 p.m.

By Cass Jacoby.

U.S. Navy Veteran Kathy McCarthy received a new roof just a month after her husband’s passing.

The last time that Navy Veteran Kathy McCarthy had her roof repaired was 30 years ago. Kathy had previously worked on the roof with her husband, also a U.S. veteran. With his recent passing the community of Benzie County in Michigan rallied behind her to support her through this tough time.

"They came to help me during the fundraiser and there's not enough words to thank everybody fully,” Kathy told UpNorth Live. “So, thank you everybody for helping me get through this and being my friends."

Kathy’s friends reached out to Veterans in Crisis about her roof. Within a month of her husband's passing Story Roofing Company, an Owens Corning Platinum Roofing Contractor, as part of the Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project was finishing work on her roof.

The Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project is a nationwide effort to show gratitude and to honor the veterans who served the country and the families who support them. Since the inception of this program in 2016, more than 325 military members have received new roofs.

“We’re excited to give back to the military members and families who give so much to our country,” said Bill Mabry, contractor network leader at Owens Corning™ in a press release. “This program provides Owens Corning and its network of independent Roofing Platinum Preferred Contractors with a way to help make these military families’ lives a little less stressful.”

Today Kathy McCarthy has a new roof on her home. According to Midland Daily News, on top of a much-needed new roof, Story Roofing Company is providing Kathy with premium coverage and fixing her furnace.
