It’s no secret that traditional siding materials such as vinyl and treated wood lack the durability and long lifespan of newer, advanced materials like metal. And while this has been a well-known fact for many metal and construction professionals, home and building owners are starting to take notice. To illustrate this point, Megan Ellsworth sat down with Melissa Dunson, senior marketing manager for Central States Manufacturing, and Chris Morris, CEO of Stonegate, in an episode of Roofing Road Trips® to discuss the ways in which metal roofing and siding can elevate any contractor’s sales capabilities.
When it comes to metal, the aesthetic possibilities are endless. Chris explained, “Looking at metal, there are a few things that stand out. One is that you're able to replicate the look, feel and architectural styles that you find in traditional sidings like wood, but it provides a better maintenance cycle.” As the technology for metal coatings and patterns continues to evolve, mimicking the look and feel of wood grain or other materials to near perfection, the look has become nearly indiscernible to metal!
While traditional, organic materials are prone to weather damage and shorter lifespans, a metal panel doesn’t fall to such problems. Central States sought to deliver a reliable, fashionable solution that both satisfies customer demand for aesthetic value and trendy design while also providing durability and long lifespans. Their solution? Coated board and batten panels, designed with a variety of color palettes in mind. Melissa shared, “I think a lot of metal siding in the past has looked like metal panels... but one of the beautiful things about board and batten is that the general style has really become so popular it gives more of that look of other types of substrates.”
The possibilities of metal siding and roofing don’t stop there, especially with the constant advancements in technology hitting the market. “Because of advancements in technology, companies are able to digitally print images onto steel coils and what they look like is so incredible,” Melissa explained. “So, now you get all of the benefits and the aesthetics with really good durability and the super low maintenance needs that you get with metal. And I think that's why [metal] has grown so fast, and I think it's the reason that this product is going to be so successful.”
