GAF, Myerstown Borough and local residents partner to reimagine recreation space

Colorful, custom designs using StreetBond coatings were applied to enhance pavement durability, help cool surfaces and build community pride through innovation, engagement and art.

Myerstown Borough and GAF, North America’s largest roofing and waterproofing manufacturer, recently teamed up to bring colorful and protective pavement coatings to help transform the Myerstown Recreation Area in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. This project will improve the resilience of the beloved community space by applying GAF’s StreetBond pavement coatings to beautify, protect and preserve several recreational spaces for residents to enjoy.

On May 10, 2025, residents joined Myerstown Borough and volunteers from GAF’s Myerstown manufacturing facility for a hands-on community event at the park, where they helped apply colorful, custom designs using StreetBond coatings, which enhance pavement durability, help cool surfaces and build community pride by turning paved surfaces into vibrant public art. The collaborative effort brought the space to life, showcasing the town’s unique spirit and creativity.

“GAF has been part of the Myerstown community for decades, and we understand the importance of not only being a good employer in the area, but also a good neighbor,” said Johan Alexandersson, plant manager at GAF-Myerstown. “We believe it is our responsibility to help our community meet their unique needs, and we are proud to be a part of this project which will help our hometown continue to thrive.”

The pavement coating was applied to the park’s basketball courts, two tennis courts and six pickleball courts, and will be applied to the StoryWalk pathway – a 0.1-mile loop with 16 permanent story panels – and additional walkways throughout the 14.28-acre recreation area. As part of its commitment to community engagement, GAF donated the StreetBond coatings and application materials to bring this vision to life. This transformation will build on recent infrastructure upgrades, including the complete repaving of aging courts.

The Myerstown Vitality Partnership (MVP) played a key role in facilitating the connection between the Borough and GAF. This effort was supported by GAF-Myerstown, which has been a part of the local community for more than 20 years, employing more than 140 people from the greater Lebanon County region. Originally established in 1968, the Myerstown Recreation Area has long been a cornerstone of community life. This revitalization ensures it remains a vibrant, welcoming space for residents and visitors alike — fostering active lifestyles, strengthening community connections and ensuring long-term infrastructure resilience.
