Finding the right ventilation solution

Attic Breeze - Finding the right ventilation solution pr photo

What to look for in a solar attic fan and how the right tools can simplify product selection and installation.

Which solar attic fans do contractors prefer? There is no single “best” solar attic fan for every roof. The right choice depends on the application, including the roof type, mounting method, attic size, available intake and the project’s ventilation needs.

For contractors, the selection process should begin with the roof assembly rather than advertised airflow alone. Attic Breeze directs installers to consider the roof type and mounting method first.

Its lineup includes self-flashing options for shingle and low-profile applications, curb-mounted options for tile, metal and low-slope roofs and GableBreeze™ for projects where a roof penetration is not desired.

Once the mounting approach is established, contractors can size the complete ventilation system. Before quoting the project, it’s important to take the attic’s total square footage into account and check available intake. Multiple roof planes, limited soffit intake and heavy sun exposure can also influence the number of fans needed.

Intake is an especially important part of that evaluation that is often overlooked or not adequately addressed. To help contractors simplify this element, the Breeze Lab includes an intake check that helps contractors evaluate net free ventilating area before proceeding to fan sizing.

Product specifications are only part of what makes a fan practical in the field. Contractors also need access to installation and technical information that matches the selected model and mounting method. The Breeze Lab provides model- and mount-specific installation instructions alongside technical data such as cubic feet per minute, watts, dimensions and applicable approval information.

Choosing a solar attic fan is less about identifying one universal favorite and more about finding the right fit for the roof and the project’s ventilation requirements. By bringing sizing, intake, product, specification and installation resources together, the Breeze Lab gives contractors one place to work through that decision.
