Exploring the benefits of individual coaching in roofing

GLO Exploring the benefits of individual coaching in roofing
October 6, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

Coaching helps professionals achieve their full potential, but how does it differ from consulting?

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, host Karen Edwards discusses the world of individual coaching with Melissa Chapman and Monica Vornbrock, co-founders of The GLO Group. This dynamic duo has over 15 years of experience in the roofing industry and their approach to coaching provides insightful strategies for personal and professional growth.

“Coaching is partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential,” Melissa explains, referencing the International Coaching Federation’s definition. Unlike consulting, coaching does not tell clients what to do; instead, it helps them uncover their own solutions. This distinction is key, as it allows individuals to lead their development path with guidance, not directives.

For roofing professionals, coaching is especially relevant in achieving career growth and leadership development. Monica expresses that coaching can help professionals amplify their impact, improve team management and advance to leadership roles. "We provide guidance, support tools and resources to help professionals move to the next level,” she says, highlighting that coaching offers a personalized approach tailored to each individual’s goals.

The conversation covers the value of coaching in driving both personal satisfaction and company-wide performance. Melissa notes that studies show a 70% increase in individual performance from coaching, including clearer communication and higher goal attainment. She adds that for teams, coaching results in improved collaboration and work performance, yielding tangible returns for companies.

For companies looking to identify whether their team might benefit from coaching, Melissa points out several key indicators, including “a lot of finger-pointing” or employees who are “not necessarily aligned and working in the same direction.” These signs of internal friction suggest an opportunity for team coaching to boost performance and foster better collaboration.
