In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Tony and Kristin Case of Hi-Peak Staffing Solutions discuss a frequently overlooked factor in the hiring equation: company culture. While resumes highlight skills, they argue, it’s the “vibe” that often determines whether a new hire sticks or walks.
“What does it look like on the day-to-day in the office?” Kristin said. “If this person is coming to work every day and it’s not a remote role, what are they walking into?” That question, she noted, is a vital part of Hi-Peak's vetting process. Rather than pushing resumes for the sake of quotas, Hi-Peak focuses on relationships, retention and results.
Hi-Peak Staffing Solutions, based in Castle Rock, Colorado, works exclusively within the roofing industry. Their specialized approach includes a curated candidate pool of more than 10,000 roofing professionals nationwide. But numbers alone aren’t their selling point.
“We are not an agency that’s just trying to push resumes in front of a company,” Kristin said. “We’re really trying to find that match.” She cited geographic personality differences as one example of why culture fit matters. “We have to be really mindful of personality matches, not because they're just good on paper,” Kristen shared.
The stakes are high in a labor market with high turnover and persistent shortages. According to Tony, Hi-Peak’s approach includes long-term tracking. “If we place someone with one of our clients and they’re still gainfully employed and happy and our clients are happy with them, that’s really the only way to look back on it and say this was a successful placement.”
And for smaller roofing companies with limited growth plans? Kristin says that it’s just as important to communicate up front. “This is going to be a PM role for the rest of your days here — are you comfortable with that?” she asks candidates. “If you are, great. If not, this is probably not the home for you.”
Hi-Peak’s message is that hiring is more than finding talent. It’s about aligning motivations, work style and culture from day one. And in an industry as tight knit as roofing, those nuances can help define success.
