Bracing for the storm

Bracing for the storm

This lightning protection system keeps rooftops safe, compliant and leak-resistant, with speed and precision.

In a market full of mounting solutions, Anchor Products is offering something purpose-built, fast-installing and code-compliant: the  Lightning Protection System. Designed to secure rooftop air terminals and cable clamps without compromising the roof membrane, this system is gaining attention across the commercial roofing industry.

“The U-Anchor is available for all commercial types such as TPO, PVC, KEE, EPDM, SBS, APP, roof coatings and more,” Anchor Products states. This versatility, coupled with brand-specific pre-flashed components, is one reason the system installs in less than five minutes, without penetrating the roof. The LPS 0400 doesn’t just meet building code; it anticipates it. The ASCE 7-16 code mandates that rooftop equipment must be “bolted, welded or otherwise positively fastened” and the LPS 0400 delivers with stainless steel hardware and a non-penetrating securement method that provides “permanent wind and seismic resistance.” It’s a forward-thinking solution in an era of increasingly strict structural requirements.

Unlike lightning rods or conductor cables, U-Anchors aren’t classified as lightning protection components under UL 96. Instead, they function as mounting accessories, yet their role is vital. According Anchor Products, the system “safely and effectively secures the air terminals and the cable clamps on the roof.” It’s a precision tool for a high-stakes job.

The components are corrosion-resistant, waterproof and designed to blend into existing systems. They’re also typically included in roof manufacturers’ leak protection warranties, provided they’re installed per manufacturer guidelines. That caveat is critical, as improper installation voids both the product warranty and any associated liability.

What sets this system apart isn’t just the hardware; it’s the holistic design approach. Anchor Products has engineered a system that aligns safety, compliance and efficiency, without forcing trade-offs.
