Advancing building enclosure performance

IIBEC Advancing building enclosure performance
July 2, 2024 at 6:00 p.m.

By Dani Sheehan.

This year’s first award ceremony celebrated the contributions of building enclosure professionals and their collaborators in support of the design, delivery and improved performance of complex projects.

At the 2024 International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC) International Convention and Trade Show the organization handed out their first Excellence in Building Enclosure Consulting Awards. You can now watch the videos that introduced each winning entry on their website! These awards highlighted projects that elevate the value building enclosure consultants bring to a project, their collaborators and their clients.

The awards recognized the following projects by category:

  • Roofing: Gary Nassibian, RRC, RRO, served as senior design consultant on the American Airlines Center roofing project in Dallas, Texas, in 2022 as they quickly worked to repair a leak over the basketball court during the NBA playoffs.
  • Building enclosure: Steven Bentz, RBEC, led the building envelope consultants and scientists for the stabilization repair and restoration of the building facade and maintenance system of the Frick Building in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
  • Commissioning: Paul D’Amore led the construction process for air leakage requirements on the Winooski School project, a 142,000 square foot school in Winooski, Vermont.
  • Exterior walls: Charles Sietmann, RRO, REWO, performed exterior facade evaluations on the Groves of Palatine Condominium Buildings in Palatine, Illinois. With four, seven-story buildings in the complex, each building included 56 balconies and two rooftop terraces at each end.
  • Waterproofing: Steven Bentz, RBEC, provided consulting services related to the waterproofing systems and concrete repairs of the Space Power Facility Dome waterproofing project in Sandusky, Ohio.

Have a project worthy of industry recognition? The application portal will reopen in August 2024 for the 2025 competition.
