A Week Dedicated to Roofs

Tilcor Love You Roof Week
November 6, 2019 at 6:00 p.m.

By Lauren White, RCS Reporter.

The Metal Roofing Alliance declared a national event, Love Your Roof Week.

Roofs complete a structure, provide protection from the elements, and are aesthetically pleasing.  Many people appreciate having a sturdy, functioning roof, yet roofs tend to be one of the last items that are cared for on a building.  This neglect can sometimes lead to major issues that are expensive and take time to repair.

The Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) realized that roofs often get ignored and sought out to draw attention to them.  They declared October 6 through October 12 as Love Your Roof Week.  This national event was established to raise awareness of the important role a roof has on a structure.  It was also the hope that building owners would look closer at their roofs as the cold weather season approached and provide them with some needed attention, treatment, and inspection.

If there are issues, finding and remedying the problems early on will help prevent costly repairs.  Tilcor Roofing Systems provided a few tips that will help keep roofs looking and performing the best they can.

The first tip is to have a roof inspection done by a professional all throughout the year.  While it’s important to have roofs examined after a major storm, they should actually be inspected every season.  Tilcor Roofing reveals, “Changes in temperature, ice dams and animals hibernating are just a few of the reasons to get a roof inspection when the season changes.”

Second, Tilcor Roofing recommends choosing a good quality roof material.  Selecting a low maintenance, yet highly durable material is ideal when faced with having to re-roof a structure due to storm damage, or when opting to upgrade the existing roof.  A stone coated steel roof doesn’t require a lot of upkeep and is long-lasting. Using this material on a roof can also save the building owner money as it helps keep maintenance costs down, can lower heating and cooling costs, and can save on insurance premiums, according to Tilcor Roofing.

Lastly, it’s important to select the best warranty you can for your roof.  “Just like the warranty on a car or major appliance, the warranty on your roof protects you from paying out of pocket for issues with the product,” Tilcor Roofing explains.  Typically, materials are only covered for a short amount of time with warranties. Therefore it’s important to ensure the roof is protected with the best option provided.

National Love Your Roof Week draws attention to the important investment that sits atop each building.  Following the above tips and providing regular maintenance and care to roofs will help maximize their performance and ultimately help building owners save money.
