A greener roof, a smarter future

A greener roof, a smarter future
June 7, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.

By Jesse Sanchez.

This innovative low-rise foam adhesive offers sustainability, enhanced safety and simplicity for roofers.

When it comes to the future of roofing, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a requirement. And H.B.Fuller is betting big on that future with the launch of its new low-rise foam adhesive: Millennium PG-1 EF ECO2.

In this episode of Roofing Road Trips®, Heidi J. Ellsworth sits down with H.B. Fuller’s Matthew Del Fiacco and Paul Terry to explore a product that could signal a shift in how roofing contractors think about adhesive technology.

“This is an FM and UL-certified can spray adhesive,” Matthew explains, noting the product’s unique design. “It utilizes naturally occurring atmospheric gases and helps to provide a very high-performance adhesive while also meeting environmental standards and enhancing worker safety.”

Matthew, a strategic account manager with over a decade in the roofing industry, shares how the product aligns with the company’s push toward more sustainable, labor-efficient solutions. For him, the innovation lies not just in the adhesive itself, but in the practical improvements it offers to roofers: a self-contained unit, recyclable canisters and a spray applicator that supports both ribbon and spatter configurations.

Paul, a senior product manager with a chemistry background, adds that the product’s “ECO2 driven” technology eliminates traditional hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) propellants in favor of carbon dioxide. He shares, “We've taken this to the next level... not only are we eliminating chemicals that are being emitted into the atmosphere, but we're also creating a safer environment for the workers on the roof.”

The conversation also touches on the product’s ability to reduce thermal bridging — a critical factor in energy efficiency. By moving away from mechanical fasteners, the fully adhered system can help retain insulation values, making it a smart choice for contractors aiming to meet rising regulatory standards and environmental goals.

“This is the future,” Paul says, pointing out that the adhesive is compliant in all U.S. and Canadian districts that regulate ozone-depleting substances and volatile organic compounds. “We’re just trying to stay ahead of that curve.”
